Muharam

Muharam is the first month of the Islamic year (Hijrah). Before the Prophet migrated from Mecca to Yathrib, the estimates are made to follow the year-month Masihi. Hijrah of the Prophet gave the impression of Islam as a missionary from the corner of the Prophet, and syiar ukhuwwah Islam itself.

In principle, Muharam bring mean 'unlawful' or 'dipantang', namely Allah forbids make war or bloodshed. However, this prohibition ditamatkan after the opening of Makkah (Al-Baqarah: 91). Since pemansuhan that Muslims should carry out daily tasks and worship without being bound by restrictions regarding another.

In one day of Muharram, known as the day of 'Ashura. People in the pre ignorance of Islam and the Jews today are glorified. This is because on this day Allah saved the Prophet Moses' peace be upon him from the pursuit of Pharaoh and his army. Grateful for the gift of Allah has given him, the Prophet Moses' peace be upon him finally to fast on this day. When this news reached our Prophet peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, through the Jews who lived in Medina, he said,
"I am more entitled to follow Moses from you (the Jews)".

That is because at the time of the Messenger of Allah be upon him wassalam reached Medina, he found the Medina Jews fasted on this day, so he conveyed his saying as above. Since then he ordered the Saw his people to fast, so be fast 'Ashura favorite among worship in Islam. And when it was not yet compulsory fasting of Ramadan.
Abdullah bin Abbas is radiyallahu 'anhu who told us this story as contained in the Sahih Bukhari No. 1900,
"When the Prophet came to Medina, he saw the Jews fasting on the day of 'Ashura. The Messenger of Allah be upon yours respectfully ask, "What day is it?". The Jews replied, "This is a good day, on this day Allah saved the Children of Israel from its enemies, then Moses' peace be upon him to fast on this day. The Prophet said, "I have more right to follow Moses from you (the Jews). So he fasted on that day and ordered his people to do ". Reported by Al-Bukhari

Jumhur scholars from the Salaf and Khalaf argues that the day of 'Ashura is the day-to-10 in the month of Muharram. Among them was Said bin Musayyib, Al-Hassan Al-Basri, Malik, Ahmad, Ishaq and others. And among contemporary scholars such as Ash-Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al'Uthaymeen vol. On this day Rasulullah SAW perform fasting during his lifetime 'Ashura. And about a year before his death, he said,
"If I was still there next year, I will fast on nine (Muharram)"
