Aqiqah

According to Sheikh Abdullah Aqiqah nashih Ulwan in the book of Islam Fil Tarbiyatul Aulad as quoted on the site has some lessons include:

6. Aqiqah strengthen ukhuwah (brotherhood) among the community.

Animals are allowed to be slaughtered for aqiqah is the same as that allowed animals slaughtered for sacrifice, in terms of age and criteria.

Imam Malik said: Aqiqah's like stabbing (ban fines sembeliah hajj) and udhhiyah (sacrifice), should not be in this aqiqah picak animals, thin, broken bones, and pain. Imam Ash-Syafi'iy said: And the animals must be avoided in this aqiqah defects that are not allowed in qurban.

Ibn Abdul-Barr said: The scholars have been scholarly consensus that in this aqiqah not allowed what is not allowed in the udhhiyah, (to) from Al Azwaj Ats Tsamaniyyah (goats, sheep, cows and camels), except for the odd opinion that is not considered.

But in aqiqah not allowed to associate (joint venture, urunan) as in udhhiyah, both goat / sheep, or cows or camels. So that if someone aqiqah with cow or camel, it was only enough for one person only, is not permissible for seven people.
